STEPPING OUT: Miami

The day I arrived home from Florida, I received an interesting “What Should I Pack” inquiry from Karen, a reader in her late 20′s.  Like me, she’s accompanying her husband to Miami for a work event, and wants to make a good impression while still looking young and fresh.  I thought about the girls we saw at the various hotels, all of whom were trying way too hard, and it reminded me that Miami is one of those places where less (skin) is definitely more.  A lightweight blazer goes a long way and can even work well during a cocktail party.  I love wearing dresses, but here I opted for a number of separates, favoring flowy skirts that could be paired with different tops depending on where I was going and what the temperature was.  If I was planning to wear something short, I made sure it wasn’t tight, and vice-versa.  I wore the above outfit out to dinner with my husband at the SLS, but would have felt totally appropriate if we had bumped into one of his colleagues at any point throughout the night.
