WHAT SHOULD I PACK: Jungle Vacation

Two recent ‘What Should I Pack’ inquires reminded me about the biggest challenge of packing for my honeymoon — the hiking in the jungle part.  I had the same issues when going on safari in South Africa too, and made the big mistake of buying those awful pants that turn into shorts at everyone’s suggestion (granted, I never actually wore them, which hopefully is a bit redeeming).

So Deb is going to Costa Rica and Nina is going to Burma — and both are in need of lightweight pants that will keep them cool while hiking but still protect them from bugs.  I purchased four new pairs of pants that fit this criteria the week before my honeymoon and I honestly couldn’t have gotten through the trip without them — I even wore them on the long flights to and from New York.  And since I’ve been back, I’ve continued to wear them with sweaters, boots and leather jackets.  This pair is now on sale, and they have a newer, brighter version here as well. The key is to find a pair with an elastic waist, lightweight fabric and a tapered leg.  Then match them with sneakers and white or grey tanks while on vacation, and you’ll be good to go!

From left to right, I brought: Vince tapered pants, Kenny Gypset pants, Standard James Perse drawstring waist pants, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent Aztec Panel Pants
